Someone say September? Grilled Peaches for Everyone!

This was not my culinary creation, per say. Although most of what I post is begged, borrowed, or stolen from the more inspirational minds in my life. For some reason, the post-vacation lows have been significantly lower then typical – possibly because of the return to work? Possibly because I have had sketchy internet at home? Possibly because I may no longer be a full fledged member of my CSA?

Regardless, the maple syrup, peaches, and feta were all picked up at the CSA last weekend, and my wonderful friend Vanessa took one look at our take and declared that we fire up the grill for grilled peaches. I’ve never even had a grilled peach before, but when Vanessa is feeling culinary, you are dealing with a force of nature, and it’s best to go outside and fire up the goddamn grill already because she pits your skull and grills that up, too. With love.

Below is her recipe, the result of my frantic note taking while she sliced, diced, and whisked. Notes were barely necessary. This dish is as simple as it is impressively delish.

4 firm ripe peaches, peeled (nectarines work too, but you won’t need to cook quite as long)
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup of brown sugar, lightly packed
1/4 tsp grated nutmeg (fresh is always preferred)
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup of feta

Optional: 4 scoops vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt

Halve peaches; discard pits. Place, cut side down, on greased grill over medium-low heat; close lid and grill for 7 minutes.

Turn peaches; brush with one-quarter of the maple syrup and brown sugar mixture. Sprinkle with nutmeg, cinnamon, and feta. Grill until tender, about 8 more minutes.

You really can’t go wrong serving these guys with ice cream; but definitely reserve some of the maple syrup and brown sugar mixture to drizzle over the finished peaches.
